Splitting cuts one image into an even grid of tiles. The best-known use is the Instagram carousel or profile grid, where a single wide photo is posted as three or more square pieces that line up again on the profile page. It is also how you turn a large scan or map into printable sections.

Frequently asked questions
How do I split a photo for an Instagram grid?
Use a 1×3 grid for a single row carousel, or 3×3 for a full profile block. Crop to a square first if you want the pieces to be square, then post the tiles in reverse order so they appear correctly on your profile.
What if the dimensions do not divide evenly?
The remaining pixels are distributed across the tiles, so the edge tiles can differ by a pixel or two. If exact equality matters, crop the image to a multiple of your grid size first.
Do the tiles lose quality?
No. Each tile is cut at full resolution from the original pixels and written out as PNG, which is lossless, so nothing is degraded by the re-encode. PNG is the only output format here for exactly that reason.
Can I split a PDF or a very large scan?
PDFs are not supported as input, but a large image scan is — the limit is your device memory. Very large files are slower because all the work happens on your own machine.
