About this tool
A square crop is what profile pictures, album art, product thumbnails and Instagram grid posts all want. Most photos are not square, so something has to go — the only question is what.
This page opens with the crop box locked to 1:1 so you cannot accidentally drag it out of shape. Move the box to choose which part of the photo survives, and optionally export at a standard size such as 1080×1080.

What size should a square profile picture be?
1080×1080 is a safe upper bound that covers Instagram and most other platforms. Smaller services display at 400 px or less, and they downscale for you, so exporting larger than 1080 rarely helps.
Will cropping to square cut off heads?
It can, on a tall portrait, because a square is much shorter than the original frame. Position the box before exporting and keep the eyes roughly a third of the way down — that is the framing that reads best in a small circular avatar.
Does cropping lose quality?
No. The pixels inside the box are kept exactly as they were; only the area outside is discarded.
