Alongside the eyedropper, the tool extracts the image's dominant colours by grouping every pixel into colour buckets and ranking them by how much of the image they cover, so you get a usable palette rather than a random sample.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find the hex code of a colour in an image?
Upload the image and click the pixel you want. The hex code appears immediately, along with the RGB and HSL equivalents, and can be copied with one click.
Why does the colour I picked look different from what I expected?
Two common reasons. JPEG compression shifts individual pixels slightly, so sampling one pixel of a supposedly flat area can be off by a few values — sample a few and compare. And images with an embedded colour profile can display differently from their raw pixel values.
How are the dominant colours chosen?
Every pixel is grouped into a coarse colour bucket, the buckets are ranked by pixel count, and the average colour of each of the largest buckets is shown. That surfaces the colours that actually cover the image rather than the most saturated ones.
Does it work on screenshots of websites?
Yes, and that is one of the most useful cases: take a screenshot, drop it in, and pull the exact background and accent colours out of it.
